FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Abuja, July 11, 2025 – The Nigeria Media Innovation Program (NAMIP), funded by the MacArthur Foundation and implemented by the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), has unveiled a preview of its second wave of case studies. Set for full release on July 11, the new series captures the journeys of eight Nigerian media organizations that have applied strategic experimentation and audience-centered innovation to achieve sustainable growth.

What to Expect

Following the success and learnings from the inaugural case study series in February 2025, this second set demonstrates scalability. Highlights include:

  • Revenue growth exceeding 90% year-on-year at one outlet.
  • Events now contributing up to 25% of total revenue for a youth-focused media platform.
  • Newsletters becoming self-sustaining products, building audiences in the thousands and attracting sponsorship deals.
  • Local-language ventures reaching over a million audience members and generating new income streams.
  • Research-driven journalism evolving into profitable business units.

These findings mark a shift from survival and adaptation toward deliberate, data-informed growth strategies that other independent media organizations can learn from.

Case Studies Launch – July 11, 2025

The full suite of case studies will be available via namip.mdif.org/case-studies.

The six reports cover:

  1. Techpoint Africa – How niche newsletters and Pitch Friday turned community trust into sponsorship revenue.
  2. Culture Custodian – How live events now drive a quarter of total revenue and accelerate audience growth.
  3. MSME Africa – How combining content, digital learning, and bundled partnerships drove a 120%+ revenue increase.
  4. Daily Trust & Omalicha Radio – How Hausa and Igbo language initiatives reached millions and unlocked new monetization.
  5. Nigeria Health Watch & Women Radio – How internal restructuring and a research product boosted impact and revenue.
  6. Ikeja Record – How a youth-led newsroom used social video and newsletters to double non-grant revenue and build strong foundational systems.

These case studies will be discussed at the Media Sustainability Conference on July 30-31, 2025. To register, visit: https://airtable.com/appVWU0BIQK5uYuvJ/pagmxg6GreixoUh11/form.
